When I'm old I'll wear purple

Today's image is one of the older ones from sweetpea, drawn by ching-chou kuik called come softly from plate 25. I'm very excited about all the new releases, but sometimes the older stamps are forgotten and they are just as beautiful, don't you agree?

This time I used a colourscheme from two challenges. I wanted to use a plain white background, but with embossing or some kind of pattern. The images from sweetpea are PERFECT for these kinds of cards. I love how they pop from the card and aren't overshadowed by papers, colours or embelishments. Just showing them off perfectly. I'll definately do more of these cards (if I can remeber that, lol)

I started out by colouring the moth and the girl's skin. When it came to choosing colour for her hair I wanted to be wild and use something fantasy-like. Then I wanted the swirls to match nicely and before I knew it it turned out to be a purple/red image. I'm not that familiar with the meaning behind my title, but I know I've seen funny images of old ladies wearing red and purple.

Lately I've been feeling like practicing my colouring skills. I really want my images to have that vibrant glow to them, but I feel like I have a long way to go. Usually I colour my images by choosing the exact right promarkers that match the patterned papers I'm using. I don't like colouring ahead because I never use those images because they never match any paper I have.
On the other hand I'm blaming my promarkers a bit because I visited a blog recently where the lady is amazing with her copics. She used promarkers for one of her cards and it was ok - kind of like mine, but not as fantastic as her usual stuff. So I'm definately thinking about upgrading them to copics. I just need to figure out the whole sketch, ciao and whatnot.

Breastcancer Christmas card

For this week's sweetpea stamps card I used non traditional colours. I used pink, kind of a breastcancer awareness Christmas card. I really like this image called light of beautitude and thought it would work beautifully (no pun intended) as this type of card, making the candles symbolize hope. A perfect card for a survivour. It's not really a Christmas image, but I think it works well as it anyway.

I must apologize though for the not so great images. I accidentaly dropped my camera the other day and the display isn't working so I'm litterally photographing in the dark. It so silly because I dropped it from a low chair and it was in it's padded cozy. I've been much rougher on it through the years, travelling with it a lot, but never really dropped it I guess. It must have bumped just in the wrong spot. Hopefully I can get it repaired as I can't live without it. It's so easy to use and loves me right back - such a chick camera :)

I have coloured the image with promarkers and added glitterglue to the wings. The leaves are punched out using a qk die called holly leaves. I added three red pearls to mimic some of the pattern on the background paper. I folded the corner on the left bottom to balance out the holly decoration. It's a quite simple card, but I think it's well balanced and interesting.

Published again!

My computer has been taking a little vacation for the last couple of days. Today it came back and allowed me to read through my e-mails. One of them was from scrapbook news and review which is an online magazine. They informed me that the project I had sent in is going to be published in Volume #3, Issue #11 Sunday, October 31, 2010 8pm EST - their special double issue!

I'm so happy because this is the first time I sent anything to them and they accepted me at once. It was the same thing with stampers' sampler; got published on the first try. I'm going to be so spoiled expecting to be published every time, lol.

It's funny because I made that project for the GDT spot at Whiff of joy. Katharina didn't offer me any position, but instead I used the project and got published. I have taken away the pics until the end of november, but if you've been visiting my blog maybe you remember THIS POST?

Ok, so it's a slightly corny sentiment, but I wanted this to be a thank-you card and this is the best I could do, lol. I hope it makes sense to you using "munch" instead of "bunch". I'd definately like to munch some of those cakes!
Since I've been a bit tired of Halloween and autumn themed cards I decided on somthing totally different. It might have been a good idea to start on my Christmascards, but that would be out of charachter for me. Why not saving it until the very last minute instead, lol.

So for today's card I've been colouring one of Samantha Rawling's cuties called cake girl from sweetpea stamps. I got myself these patterned papers a while ago and as soon as the stamp came through my mailbox I've been wanting to use them together.

She is coloured with my promakers and cut out using one of the nestabilities. The edges are "burnt" with walnut stain distress ink. The little tag is a cuttlebug die and the text is written by hand (it shows unfortunately) I like how the smaller squares turned out. I rounded  two corners - diagonally. I think it creates a look like they are spritzed out, kind of like whipped cream or even the girl's hat. I also added glitterglue to some of the details on the patterned paper. The whipped cream on the girl's cake got some white liquid pearls.

New sweetpea release - detailed mermaid

There are a lot of new releases going on at sweetpea stamps. One of them is a new plate by Elaine Cox. I've been playing with one of the two images from that plate. Isn't she amazing? The stamp is quite big, about 5" wide. There are so many details to colour and for once I also coloured the background. It took me longer than I thought to colour the whole image, but seeing it done it was worth it. With a stamp like this you don't need many details around it. I wanted it to stand out so I focused on the colouring adding few embellishments.

I didn't follow any specific sketch as I wanted to leave it simple, but I managed to use a recipe challenge from simon says stamp: 3 types of embellishments, 2 patterned papers and 1 image. I'm also entering this card for peartreedesigns as they had a free themed challenge this week.

Happy Halloween, doll...

Are you tired of Halloween yet? I'm starting to be as I only have two Halloween patterned papers to play with, lol. I really want to get basic grey's eerie collection, but haven't found any good place to get them yet. To be honest I've been a bit of a cheapskate. Since we don't celebrate Halloween here I've been spending my moolah on other supplies, but after having so much fun with these cards I think I'll invest in some spooky ones. I think this is the most Halloween cards I've ever made during one year and it's been a blast.

For this card I used one of the older stamps from Kraftin' Kimmie's called Drucilla. I really love these stamps and I would like to have all of them! Actually, I was fortunate enough to win some during Kraftin' Kimmies bloghop. Can't wait to see which ones I get.

I didn't have any of the Halloween themed ones, but that never stopped me. I like to use what I have and thought this Voodoo one would fit perfectly. It is coloured with promarkers and the edges are inked with distress ink. I cut out two hearts in green and orange with my nesties which I then embossed with a cuttlebug embossing folder. I used front on the orange heart and back on the green of the folder to add interest. This makes the skulls raised on one and pushed down on the other. It's a minor detail, but I think it makes a difference on the overall impression.

I also stamped the heartstamp - that comes with Drucilla - three times and colored in green, orange and purple. The texttag is a nestieshape and I wrote the text by hand. I wanted to write something funny and came up with this "doll" sentiment.
